Botanic Gardens

Establish in the 1850’s by Andrew Sinclair, botanist and contemporary of Charles Darwin, The Pines gardens are one of the few remaining “great gardens” of Auckland. Cuttings from the Pines were sent back to Kew Gardens to establish their South Pacific Collection. Today, after over 150 years of culture and care, they are designated a “special ecological area” and are home to native flora and bird life.
