A modernist icon
on Mount Eden
Two harbour view
Placed to capture light and landscape, the Pines Apartments frame views of Auckland at its very best. To the northeast, views of the city and Skytower give way to Rangitoto sunrise over the Hauraki Gulf. Southwest looks out upon the Waitakere Ranges and Manukau Harbour, with evening views of the setting sun.
Completed in 1971, the apartments were conceived as an act of preservation. Rather than replace Selwyn Robinson’s established garden estate, the development was carefully placed within it. Mature trees — many already a century old at the time of construction — anchor almost seven acres of landscaped grounds. The result is a disciplined modernist structure, set within a legacy landscape, a rare sense of urban calm amongst an increasingly cramped city.
Luxury apartments in legacy gardens
The Pines apartments were designed by leading American architects Welton Beckett and constructed to the highest standards, with an earthquake rating which is far in excess of Auckland City requirements. The infrastructure and fit-out continue to be maintained at that level of excellence, with a building manager living on site.
This ensures that the luxurious amenities, including a pool, barbecue area, gymnasium and tennis court, are always kept in the finest condition, ready for use at a moment's notice.
All the apartments benefit from excellent security and there is generous on-site parking, both for owners and visitors. Apartments are intended to be owner-occupied, leading to a sense of community to ensure the continued enjoyment of this wonderful property for generations to come.
